Outdoor learning
We have two large and secure gardens which are fully accessible throughout the day. Our outside spaces are full of equipment and exciting areas to explore and investigate a wide range of learning opportunities.
Our large garden is completely secure and designed to help children to develop their agility, social skills and nurture their imagination. There are lots of exciting areas to explore, from gardening at our vegetable patch, to playing on the climbing frames. We offer children a wide variety of equipment and ample space to run around, because we believe learning through outdoor play is fundamental to a their development and confidence.
How do our outdoor areas benefit your childs development?
Our large outdoor spaces help a young persons learning as it offers all children regular opportunities to be able to achieve and develop self-confidence and self-esteem through child-led learning in a natural/woodland/outdoor environment. They also become aware of limits, boundaries and challenge in their play. We understand that many children at Whitecross Day Nursery are more likely to trial new things when being outdoors.
Many activities that we provide outdoors allow for a child-centred approach, which follows the child’s interests whilst also experiencing the changes in the natural environment during different seasons. Playing and learning outside helps to develop knowledge and understanding of the world through learning about and respecting nature, the environment and the independence of humans, animals, plants and life cycles.
Our outdoor environment offers space and therefore is particularly important to those children who learn best through active movement.
Our large outdoor spaces gives children the freedom to play away from constraints and confinements which allows many to feel calmer and happier in their play.
Being outside helps many children to develop their learning style. It also offers a different environment to learn the important skill of self regulation.
